The Department of Building Safety is responsible for enforcement and administration of the Minnesota State Building Code within the City of Sauk Rapids and in the Joint Powers Districts of Sauk Rapids Township and Minden Township.

The purpose of the building code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life and limb, health, property, and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all structures and equipment specifically covered by the code.  It also ensures that buildings will be accessible by people with disabilities.  In addition, it reduces energy costs by requiring buildings to meet certain standards for insulation and equipment efficiency.
