MUNICIPAL PARK

PARK SIZE:             12.0 Acres+

DESCRIPTION:       Municipal Park is a well-known park with a regional reputation.  The park is visited by a large number of people for a variety of activities including the Rapids River Food Fest in June of each year.  The park is connected to three other regional river parks by a paved recreational trail.  Many residents and non-residents rent the buildings for family gatherings and company picnics.

ADDRESS:               1001 River Ave N

HISTORY:                 This area was first mapped as the Osauka Addition in 1867 and this land was obtained through various conveyances to the City. In 2009 the City replaced one of the buildings (Sportsman) with a new modern building with its own restrooms and kitchen area.

FACILITIES:             Recreational paved trail, boat landing, 2 enclosed buildings available to rent, a large open air shelter, grills, picnic tables, campfire pit, softball field, volley ball court, basketball court, horseshoe pits, observation swings, playground equipment and swings.  The park also has restrooms that are available with a building rental or there are portable toilets at the site seasonally.

FEATURES:             The park boasts large oak trees for shade and beautiful views of the Mississippi River.  The boat landing is an asset to the area.  The playground equipment is the most popular in the area and has something for all ages and abilities.

The Municipal Park Pavilion was completed in Fall of 2009.  Amenities include four 12" banquet tables and three 48 x 60 oval tables and chairs.  The kitchen area includes sink, cupboards, refrigerator, and stainless steel counter tops.  Men's and women's bathrooms are also present in the new building.  The 30' x 60' building was designed to follow the same theme as the existing log building in appearance.  A large overhang on the riverside of the building offers a beautiful view up and down the river and another large overhang on the east side of the building offers a view of the open-air shelter and playground.  Both overhangs provide shelter for tables manufactured with recycled materials funded in part by a Benton County Score Grant.    The occupancy of the new building is 98 and is American Disability Act (ADA) accessible.

The Municipal Park buildings are available for rental from mid-May through mid-September each year.  In addition to the Municipal Park Pavilion, there is a Log Building at Municipal Park that is also available for rent, which was renovated in 2018 to add men's and women's bathrooms. The log building has a refrigerator, sink and counter top with electrical outlets.
